Granular — Work

Center for Ecosystems + Architecture, Yale University

Interdisciplinary teams exploring the interactions between plants, animals and the environment.

Overview

We worked closely with Yale CEA Principals to develop a new graphic strategy, brand and website for their research centre at Yale University.

Design Approach

We designed a new graphic approach to Yale CEA’s work that included a new logo, motion design, layouts for their website and brochure to help fundraise for their research.

We chose a style that was predominantly monochromatic, and highlighted with a bright fuchsia, and accented with their photographs and research material.

Design Process

With complex programs and multiple avenues of research, the challenge was to create a design that could house the variety of aesthetics that are inherent in each project. Our design approach was to build something which was academic, but also architectural and artistic to reflect the interdisciplinarity of the research avenues.

We designed a stacked logo anchored by the Yale University Logotype; formally this logo was formed by circles, a key motif in Yale CEA’s concept of circular material economies and integrated systems approach.

Our collaboration created a scientific and academic, but also artistic result that will help Yale CEA to develop its projects, studios, and research for years to come.
